Lutheran Disability Services recently had the pleasure of celebrating a very special milestone with our client Alex, who turned 35 years old.
This birthday is particularly significant, as Alex is believed to be the oldest known person living with CHOPS syndrome, an incredibly rare genetic condition. Reaching this milestone is a wonderful achievement and a moment worth celebrating.
Alex was excited about his birthday and looked forward to sharing the day with the people who matter most to him.
“I am very excited to celebrate my 35th birthday.”
The celebrations included spending time with his brother, sister, mum and dad, cutting a birthday cake, and enjoying the many messages, gifts and well wishes he received from family and friends.
“I will celebrate my birthday with my brother, sister, dad and mum. I will cut the cake and receive lovely wishes, messages and gifts.”
Alex lives in one of our SIL houses in Oakden, alongside fellow residents Rory and John, where he enjoys being part of a supportive and welcoming home environment. When asked what he enjoys most about living at his home, Alex spoke about the friendships he has built and the activities he enjoys participating in.
“I like the company of my housemates and I love cooking with the assistance of my staff.”
Alex also shared his appreciation for the LDS staff who support him each day.
“My staff is very supportive. They support me with my daily living activities. I feel safe with them.”
Outside of birthday celebrations, Alex enjoys a variety of activities that keep him active, connected and engaged. He loves watching videos, listening to music, keeping in touch with family on his iPad, going for walks, cooking with staff and spending time in his kitchen garden growing vegetables and flowers.
“My favourite things are watching videos, listening to music and talking with my family members on my iPad. I love going for walks and cooking with my staff. I grow vegetables and flowers in my kitchen garden.”
Alex’s 35th birthday was an opportunity to celebrate not only a significant milestone, but also the positive relationships, interests and achievements that make him such a valued member of the Spring House community.
Congratulations, Alex, on your remarkable 35th birthday. We hope you had a wonderful day and look forward to celebrating many more milestones with you in the years ahead. 🎉🎂💙
